Steven W Rodgers is a composer, lyricist, and playwright who received his MFA in playwriting from the University of Virginia, with a concentration in musical theatre.
His first musical, Revolutionary Gentleman, is a tongue-in-cheek look at the American Revolution through the eyes of Benedict Arnold. He later composed the score for librettist David Risley's Maiden of Last Love, which was presented as a showcase in New York City.
Zolushka: The Russian Cinderella, written in collaboration with British lyricist Wendy Christopher, has received several productions in the Washington, D.C., area. Its original soundtrack featured Broadway performer Ashley Park (Mean Girls) in the title role.
In 2026, Steven completed No Trifling with Love, a romantic musical comedy for which he wrote the music and lyrics and adapted the book from Alfred de Musset's 19th-century play, On ne badine pas avec l'amour.
He has also written a number of stage comedies, including The Will to Get Married, a darkly comic trilogy that has been produced across the country, including two Equity showcases in New York City.
Over the course of his career, he has composed more than 300 songs and instrumental works, with recordings from his musicals and other projects available on Amazon Music and Spotify.
He is currently at work on his new comedy, The KGB Take up Interior Decorating.
Originally from the Pacific Northwest, he lives in Washington DC with his wife, Korean-American artist, Mikyong Shin.
